nxtgen spreads its tentacles further.

We’re insidious you know.  Two months, two new regions, first Cambridge now Southampton. Yes, the Next Generation User Group (NxtGenUG) is expanding faster than my waist line after working at Microsoft for a week and this time they’re heading south.  The latest and warmest region of NxtGenUG is Southampton.  The region is being organised and run by John McLoughlin and Rick Allen two local guys who have sourced a venue, projector, screen, pizza, swag and speakers all on their ownsome - all that a User Group needs or could ask for! As ever when a new NxtGenUG region opens...

DDD6; Call for Speakers

Because the event is for the community and by the community we are currently looking for speakers who would like to present. You don’t need to have spoken before, but do want to share your experiences and knowledge of .NET with other developers. The speaker proposals area for DDD6 is now open. The details for the event can be found on the Developer Day website and you can see what subjects have been covered previously on there too to get a few ideas. And for the fifth event in a row I was first to submit. I had...

nxtgenug: Nothing but Jean Paul Boodhoo

On the suggestion of one of our members, Adrian Sutcliffe (nxtgenug - the listening usergroup *grin*) we grabbed Jean Paul Boodhoo as soon as he got off the plane from the US, putting him in the boot of my card and dragging him out to Oxford. Jean Paul is taking time out from his "Nothing but .NET" course in London to come out and cover the fundamentals of .NET programming. Not to be missed. What:Nothing But Jean Paul BoodhooInternational renowed presenter Jean Paul Boodhoo covers loads of fundamentals of .NET programming. If you’re programming with .NET, don’t miss it. Nuff...

Tony Rogerson gets his bits out, SQLBits that is.

Saturday Oct 6th sees the first SQL Community conference (SQLBits - (http://www.SQLBits.com), 20 sessions in 4 tracks (Business Intelligence, DBA, Development and Katmai) on a Saturday in Reading at a cost of £0. That’s right, nothing, nada, or in SQL terms IS NULL (ok, not really, I know NULL means no data, not a decimal/money value of 0, but come on, it’s marketing people). Full registration is now open, places are going fast, but there’s only room for 350 people. You need to register on the http://www.SQLBits.com site and then select the 10 sessions (http://www.sqlbits.com/information/PublicSessions.aspx) you would most like to...

Electoral Registration on the internet.

The postman just delivered my annual voter registration form and I was interested to see that you could confirm your registration details on-line. What a disappointment it was. The URL give was www.electorregistration.co.uk/sodc, which immediately made me wonder; a .co.uk domain? Why isn’t this a .gov.uk domain? It seems that a commercial company is providing the service. Well, ok, I guess, not ideal but in this time of public-private partnerships that’s only to be expected (even if PPP is largely a sham in terms of value for money). So I went to the site to be greeted by...
